The government is considering to import 1,000MW power from Tajikistan to meet future energy requirements in the country and Nespak has been directed to carry out feasibility study in this regard, a press release issued here on Tuesday said. Federal Water and Power Minister Liaquat Ali Jatoi stated this during a meeting held here.
He also asked for a similar study report for road link between Pakistan and Tajikistan to make communication better between both the countries and to boost economic and trade activities in the region.
He said that import of 1,000MW power at cheaper rates would help in providing electricity to the people of far-flung areas and eliminate loadshedding in the country. He directed the Nespak to submit the feasibility report to the prime minister at the earliest.
Earlier, Nespak Managing Director Dr Amjad Pervez gave a detailed presentation on import of power from Tajikistan and link road between both the countries.
He presented a pre-feasibility report to the minister. The report provides technical as well as cost comparison of two transmission route options and three transmission voltage alternatives. The country will get cheaper electricity from Tajikistan.-PR
