The newly-elected President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Qazi Muhammad Jamil has said that the new executive body of the SCBA will have cordial and cooperative relationship with the superior judiciary to strengthen it against pressures from any quarter. Talking to Business Recorder here on Tuesday, Qazi Jamil said that the executive body has decided to have a formal meeting with Chief Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui to apprise him of the problems of the bar.
Previously, relations between the bench and the bar were estranged because of differences over the extension of retirement age of the judges of the superior courts.
Qazi Jamil said that although he was not a member of any political party, yet he has a principled stand over the constitutional matters. He said it was his firm stand that no law could be passed for an individual. Moreover, a law could not change structure of the constitution.
Qazi Jamil, who was attorney general of Pakistan during previous regime of PPP and a former judge of the Peshawar High Court, said that a clear procedure had been laid down for amendments in the constitution, which required support of two third majority of the House.
