Sri Lankan tea prices fell at the latest auction as demand for most varieties sagged in tandem with lower quality, brokers said. The estimated gross sales average from the auction on Tuesday and Wednesday was 205.00 rupees ($2.00) per kg, a shade lower than last week's average of 207.58 rupees per kg, Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers said in a statement.
Prices of high grown teas, like Broken Orange Pekoes (Bops) from the high altitude Nuwara Ely region, dipped by 10.00 to 15.00 rupees per kg.
"Relatively uninteresting quality resulted in the majority of the teas declining in value," Forbes and Walker said.
