The founder and Managing Director of the Grameen Bank of Bangladesh, which is a success story in the micro-economic sector in Bangladesh and acknowledged world-wide, Professor Muhammed Yunus will give a talk here at the Beach Luxury Hotel on Saturday, December 11, 2004 at 6.00 pm on the subject "We can create a poverty-free South Asia."
The function is being hosted by Ameena Saiyid, the Managing Director of the Oxford Printing Press.
Professor Yunus will also sign books written by him, which will be sold on the occasion. His talk will be followed by a question-answer session. It may be mentioned here that the Grameen Bank founded by Professor Yunus has today 1,277 branches in Bangladesh and provides credit to some 3.8 million poor people residing in 46,260 villages in Bangladesh. Professor Yunus who did his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University USA in Economics in 1970, started the Grameen Bank project in 1976. It very soon became a success story and came to be acknowledged world-wide. He is also the recipient of scores of national and international prizes, awards, honorary degree and is on the board of many national and international organisations.
