Soft red winter wheat futures at the Chicago Board of Trade were higher early on Friday on short covering and talk of fresh interest in US wheat by China, traders said. Wheat traders said there was talk that China may have switched a cargo of US soft red winter wheat to US spring wheat. There also was talk that China may have switched an order for Canadian wheat to US spring wheat.
Minneapolis Grain Exchange spring wheat futures were trading 1-1/2 to 6 cents per bushel higher.
At 10:23 a.m. CST (1623 GMT), CBOT wheat was up 5-1/2 to 5-3/4 cents per bushel, with December up 5-1/2 at $2.89 per bushel. March was up 6-1/2 at $3.02-3/4.
