Danish grain prices slid slightly this week as farmers held back stocks in the hope that prices would rise and the European Union would restart wheat export subsidies. Danish feed wheat was quoted at 110-111 euros per tonne fob December delivery, while milling wheat had a nominal price of 116-117 euros per tonne, traders said.
"But the wheat is still not leaving Denmark as we're just too expensive here, so it's only domestic demand supporting prices right now," one trader said. Buyers were mainly local feed compounders and traders covering their short positions.
Traders said farmers were hoping for Brussels to resume export subsidies on wheat, but added that any such move was unlikely until the new year.
