According to a press report, the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has directed the cabinet division to import ten model Mercedes Benz S600L bullet-proof cars to be used by VVIPs. The justification given for the purchase of most luxuries, expensive cars are to provide protection to high profile Government officials although the Muslims believe that the time of one's death is written in the Destiny book.
How can bullet-proof cars can save one from death by accidents and mishaps? Spending the public money by every ruler for their own protection and comfort has been a set tradition in our land of the pure of the poorest?
In the civilised society, the life of an ordinary citizen is considered as important as that of the President or the Prime Minister. Why are most of the Muslim countries' rulers living standards extravagant? More so than their fellow citizens when Islam's basic teachings advocate the equality of mankind? How can the conscious of our rulers allow them to spend millions of public money on their self protection and then call themselves true Muslims, when 35% people are living below the poverty line.
