Four candidates out of total 16, who filed their nomination papers to contest elections for five Directors of the Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE) seats, have withdrawn their papers. The scrutiny committee will decide the fate of two other candidates Wasiullah Khan and Naeem Anwar on Thursday, in the light of legal opinion being awaited because of LSE law officer's being out of town.
Both the candidates are said to be defaulters of the exchange. However, the scrutiny committee resolved that in case the nominations of those two candidates were found okay for elections, they could withdraw the same, if willing so, even after the last date for the purpose ie December 08.
The scrutiny committee headed by Syed Mohsin Raza Bukhari and comprising Dr Yasir Mahmood, Imtiaz Ahmed and Asif Maqbool Sukhera in its meeting on Wednesday decided that eligibility of those two candidates would be decided in consultation with legal officer who was in Karachi.
The candidates who have withdrawn their nomination papers on Wednesday are Adeel Zafar, Muhammad Ashraf Hussain Adhi, Ammar ul Haq and Nadeem B.J. Shaikh.
After objection raised by the scrutiny body on nominations of two candidates and withdrawal of papers by four candidates the following ten-candidates are left in the race of elections of LSE to be held on 18th of this month.
Syed Asim Zafar, Syed Muhammad Ismail Abbasi, Gull Abdullah Dhami, Gulfam Ahmed Khan Sherwani, Tariq Zaheer Shaikh, Chaudhry Mohammad Afzal, Mohammad Suhail Dayala, Mohammad Faisal Potrik, Engr. Mazhar Rafiq and Arif Majeed Chaudhry.
However, if the scrutiny committee decides in favour of Wasiullah Khan and Naeem Anwar and they do not withdraw their nominations the total number of contesting candidates will be 12.
