Industries and Production Minister Jahangir Tareen on Wednesday said that it would not be easy to level corruption charges against him for favouring local car manufacturing companies. "It is not easy to level corruption charges against me in car prices issue." He was replying to a question at a press conference, in which he was asked that he might face same corruption charges in cars prices scandal as was faced by his predecessor. He said that the prices of cars have been increased due to explosion in demand as banks were extending loans to middle class for cars.
The government could not allow import of used cars as it was a short-term measure, which could hurt the local industry, he said, adding that Honda company was starting double shift by the end of December, while Suzuki acquired 100 acres land to expand its infrastructure.
He said that the government has allowed new companies to start their production with 40 percent deletion and then achieve 80 percent deletion.
