In collaboration with the Higher Education Commission, the HEJ. Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi will establish a 'Plant Biotechnology Park' at the cost of Rs 60 million. Besides the park, the institute will also set up a 'Medicinal Plant Collection Unit' in New Murree. This was announced by the Acting Head, International Centre for Chemical Sciences (ICCS), University of Karachi, Professor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Chaudhary during a press conference held on Wednesday.
He also revealed that the World Health Organisation (WHO), recognising quality of education/research being imparted/conducted by the institute had restored its status as the WHO Collaborating Centre for Pesticide Analysis for the next four years.
Giving the details of the planned Plant Biotechnology Park, he pointed out that the park would be set up in a building which would comprise four major portions including laboratory, training centre, green house and field.
