The family members of the missing infant from Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) on Tuesday threatened for self-immolation if law-enforcing agencies failed in taking action against top officials of the hospital and recovery of the infant. Those who given the threat were including Abdul Majeed, grand father and Abdul Jabbar father of the missing infant, who was also flanked by his two other brothers Iftikhar Ahmad and Israr Ahmad.
Abdul Jabbar said that eight days ago his wife gave birth a son in the LRH, but on the very next morning a girl, who was checking the patients in guess of doctor or mid wife took the infant away. The girl appeared in the ward within just 30 minutes after delivery and took him for weighing, he added.
However, he said that very next morning she once again came to the ward and took the infant for weighing in presence of the doctors and nurses and went missing along with the child. He said that although the police station concerned had registered a case, but no arrest had been made so far.
"The agony of the matter is that the police has declined to prepare even the sketch of the accused girl", the father of the missing infant complained. However, he said that the sketch of a body accompanying the accused had been prepared.
The bereaved family accused the management of the hospital for involvement in the stealing of the infant, saying that the bed from where the infant was took away by the girl was situated in front of the nursing counter of the ward. But, she was never forbidden from doing so, which clearly prove the involvement of the management.
They demanded of the President General Pervez Musharraf, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Governor NWFP Lieutenant General Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd), Chief Minister, Akram Khan Durrani and other high ranking officials to intervene into the matter and recover their infant child otherwise they would have no option other than en bloc self-immolation in front of Frontier House.
It is worth to mention that the missing of infants from the major hospitals of Peshawar City has become a routine matter and the mentioned incident is seventh registered during the current calendar year.
