The Punjab government will set up housing schemes over an area of 450 acres at Sargodha, Faisalabad, Khanewal, Lahore and Layyah and would distribute 8,500 residential plots to low-income people. Punjab Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Syed Raza Ali Gilani revealed this while presiding over a meeting held here on Wednesday. In Sargodha, 117 plots of 1-Kanal, 233 plots of 10-Marla, and 232 plots of 7-Marla would be cut out of 172 acres land.
In Faisalabad, 1,645 plots of 3-Marla on 70-acres while 35 plots of 1-Kanal, 88 plots of 10-Marla, 73 plots of 7-Marla on 50 acres in Khanewal, 3,385 plots of 3-Marla would be arranged on 105 acres on Raiwind Road in Lahore.
Similarly, 28 plots of 1-Kanal and 28 plots of 10-Marla on 50 acres of land in Layyah would be distributed.
Talking about new five housing schemes, he said that 71 plots of 1-Kanal, 129 plots of 10-Marla, 80 plots of 7-Marla, 791 plots of 5-Marla on 100 acres of land in Jhelum, 88 plots of 1-Kanal, 216 plots of 10-Marla on 50 acres at Hazroo of Attock District, 80 plots of 1-Kanal, 120 plots of 10-Marla, 257 plots of 7-Marla and 347 plots of 5-Marla on 65 acres in Sahiwal, 55 plots of 1-Kanal, 123 plots of 10-Marla on 40 acres at Murree, 12 plots of 1-Kanal, 14 plots of 10-Marla, 24 plots of 7-Marla, and 97 plots of 5-Marla on 13 acres in Renala Khurd of Okara District would be distributed among the low income people.
He said these housing schemes would be completed by the end of 2005. These schemes would have all kind of civic amenities so that the residents may not feel any sense of deprivation.
The district housing committees have been directed to identify places to set up new housing schemes in the province and submit their reports immediately.
