Federal Minister for Railways, Mian Shamim Haider has said that a programme is being carried out for modernisation of railways with a view to providing the best travel facilities to people and making it a profit-earning institution. Inaugurating the railway underpass at Sangla Hill completed at a cost of Rs 20 million, the minister said that various schemes for upgradation of railways track, inclusion of modern coaches, engines and introduction of computerised ticketing are currently in progress.
Railways General Manager Abdul Wahab Awan, city Nazim Mian Iftikhar Husain and MPA Sheikh Asif Jillani were also present on the occasion.
The minister said Railways has also chalked out a programme for developing parks on vacant lands adjacent to railway stations in different cities. He said Railways land occupied by land grabbers would be retrieved from them at any cost.
Talking briefly to newsmen, Shaimim Haider said agitation by the opposition would not affect the government which would continue to pursue projects of public welfare and complete its tenure.
He said the present government believes in serving the masses and all available resources are being utilised for the welfare and uplift of the people.
On the occasion he also announced the Faisalabad-Lahore train's stop at Sangla Hill, the upgradation of the rail track from Faisalabad to Wazirabad and provision of Sui gas to union council 127 in Sangla Hill area.
