Pakistan Footwear Manufacturers Association (PFMA) has asked the government to take necessary steps for increasing footwear export of Pakistan, which have registered decrease. In a press statement issued here on Thursday, a spokesman of PFMA said that increase in petro-based materiel, rise in import duty by the government, reduction in duty drawback rates on leather shoes and high infrastructure cost in Pakistan are the main reasons for decline in shoe exports.
He said that European Union, which absorbs more than 50 percent of our shoe export, is going to impose import duty on our export, which was waived off after 9/11 incident.
