The rupee on Saturday lost 10 paisa against dollar in the open market for buying and selling at Rs 60.20 and Rs 60.30 per dollar, dealers said. The demand for dollars increased in the market for year-end payments, dealers said. It seemed that the local currency would show further weakness in the coming days, they added. The euro did not show any variation versus rupee at Rs 79.65 and Rs 79.95 for buying and selling, respectively.
In the world markets, the dollar posted fresh gains for the third straight session, as traders took more year-end profits in other currencies in anticipation of higher US interest rates after next week's Federal Reserve meeting.
INTERBANK MARKET: : The rupee continued its overnight weakness in interbank market, losing three paisa in relation to the greenback for buying and selling at Rs 59.52 and Rs 59.54, respectively.
