Qazi Hussain Ahmed, President, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), said on said that an American ambassador was ruling the country in the shape of a 'viceroy'. Addressing MMA's third public meeting held in connection with mass contact campaign at Minar-e-Pakistan here he said an employee of the US wearing uniform has been imposed upon the country and he was challenging the whole nation, that if it had the courage, it should dare to remove him. The MMA leader said that Islam was a religion of moderation and enlightenment. He averred that if 'Bush and Mush' were friends, then "God is with us too."
He said those people who thought Russians and British were invincible must look at it that where were these powers now.
Qazi, while inviting politicians to participate in the MMA meeting in Rawalpindi on December 19, said that their next programme would be disclosed there. The MMA chief stated that their struggle would continue till goal of Islamic revolution was achieved. Musharraf for the sake of his uniform was pitting armed forces against the masses, he added.
While criticising government policies on Wana and other tribal areas, Qazi said that these were most unfortunate. He asked other political forces to join MMA in its struggle against tyranny.
Qazi also warned Aga Khan Foundation that they on the behest of US should beware of taking place of Qadianis in Pakistan. He criticised Musharraf's statement on 'Hijab' in France, saying that it had damaged sentiments of the Muslims.
Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Maulana Fazlur Rehman in his address on the occasion said that the nation would not allow Pervez Musharraf to break his pledge of doffing off the uniform.
He said it was unfortunate that the US that claimed to get rid Iraq of dictatorship was supporting dictatorship in Pakistan. Fazlur Rehman said that if US say issue of Musharraf' s uniform was internal affair of the country, then why pressure was being exerted in relation with change of educational system and Madaris infrastructure.
He averred that it was most unfortunate that if a feminine was not properly dressed it would tantamount to moderation and if some body was involved in boozing or other misuse, he is considered to be enlightened. 'Killing of Iraqis and Afghanis were example of their moderation', he pointed out.
The MMA leader said Muslims were for dialogue on all issues, however they will not budge before any authoritarian dictates.
Referring to Kofi Annan, he said even he has said that Muslims were being oppressed and that there was no legitimacy in invasion of Iraq.
In a resolution passed on the occasion MMA slammed lottery scheme in the name of 'Punjab Development Fund' initiated by Punjab government. In another resolution the gathering criticised the elimination of clause of religion from the passport and asked the authorities to immediately restore it. In yet another resolution, MMA condemned Musharraf's rapprochement efforts towards India and friendship endeavours at Punjab level, stating these measures tantamount to taking eye away from Indian entry into Security Council and hurting just cause of Kashmir.
MMA rejecting Kashmir formula of Musharraf castigated and rejected speeches, interviews and statements given by him during his US visit recently.
Hafiz Hussain Ahmed in his speech asked Pervez Musharraf to abide by the agreement evolved earlier on uniform, in the larger interest of the nation.
JI leader Liaquat Baloch speaking on the occasion demanded return of armed forces to the barracks and said that process of Islamisation as enshrined in 1973 constitution should commence.
Head of Punjab PML-N, Sardar Zulfiqar Khan Khosa in his address said that MMA and the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) need to unite in their struggle against dictatorship. He invited MMA to participate in ARD meeting on December 20 at Sialkot. PML-N's Saad Rafiq said Akbar's Din -e-Elahi was being enforced in the country.
Ahmed Saeed Kirmani, PPP's Azizur Rehman Chan, and other leaders of opposition also spoke on the occasion.
