Turkish Ambassador Kemal Gur on Sunday said art and cultural activities can help strengthen the diplomatic ties among different countries. He was speaking as chief guest at the "Annual member's photographic exhibition" organised by Islamabad Camera Club at Lok Virsa here. The function was attended by the ambassador's wife, Executive Director Lok Virsa Uxi Mufti, foreign diplomats and artists.
The Ambassador urged for developing the existing relations between Pakistan and Turkey in terms of emphasising on art and cultural activities. He said, in the year 2005, the Embassy was planning to hold five exhibitions in the Capital relating to the Turkish art.
About the details of these upcoming events, Kemal said one would be the exhibition of photographs shot through the camera of a Turkish teacher.
The other exhibitions include the separate display of paintings in oil and water colours, Turkish miniatures and "Tehzeeb", based on cultural ornaments.
President ICC Dr S M Malik said the aim of his organisation was to promote the photographic art of the young talent as well as to recognise the services of professionals.
He said ICC encourages amateurs to learn photography, which is an art of preserving the history in a pictorial manner.
Secretary ICC, Khurshid Ahmad apprised the audience about the working of organisation, saying on the eve of its fifth anniversary, the number of ICC members had reached up to 200 which was just 10 at the time of its inception. He said ICC would continue adding young talent to the photographic scene of country.
The lifetime achievement award was presented to the veteran photographer Pirzada Abdul Waheed for his artistic contributions for the last five decades. Eight other members of ICC were given winner awards including Umair Ghani, Abdul Razzaq Vans, Atiya Yaldram, Gulshan Aziz, Saif ud Din Islamailjee, Colonel Nusrat Malik, Sajid Mehmud Qazi and Chawla. Later, the ambassador formally inaugurated the photo-exhibition and appreciated the work done by the artists.
