The Central Cotton Research Institute on Monday revised its earlier cotton production, and predicted total production of 13.2 million bales, which would be all-time high production. In a meeting held at the Institute under the chairmanship of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Minister it was observed that Punjab might produce 10.4 million bales, which would be a jump of 15 percent. And, Sindh may produce 2.7 million bales, with a jump of 12 percent.
The meeting, which was also attended by Cotton Commissioner Minfal, Vice President FPCCI, secretary agriculture Punjab and senior officials of the CCRI, predicted that the country could receive 15 percent higher production compared to last year.
Some cotton experts said that the higher yield and early arrivals had created confusion among the analysts and made them unable to assess the real production by the end of the season.
