The Pakistan Railways (PR) administration has announced five percent increase in railway fares effective from December 21. However, this raise will not be applicable for the passengers travelling up to 100-km. A PR spokesman said here on Monday that all the railway tickets, which have been sold prior to December 21, will not be liable to pay this increase, adding the Railways has also made five percent increase on the transportation of high-speed diesel engine.
The Railways has not made any increase in freight charges since 1996.
Moreover, PR General Manager Abdul Wahab Awan on Monday inspected coaches, which were being prepared for the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) at Mughalpura workshop. Two racks will be delivered to the KCR in January 2005.
