French grain office ONIC said on Monday it had received fresh intervention offers for 45,400 tonnes of grain this week, comprising 43,500 tonnes of wheat and 1,900 tonnes of barley. ONIC now has a total of 219,100 tonnes of grain in store, comprising 112,900 tonnes of wheat, 93,800 tonnes of barley and 12,400 tonnes of maize, it said on its website. The European Union's publicly-funded intervention stores open between November 1 and the end of May.
So long as quality standards are met, farmers can sell their grain for a guaranteed price of 101.31 euros a tonne, plus a 0.46 euro monthly bonus.
Traders expect hefty offers into intervention this season after big harvests across the bloc and elsewhere, leading to strong competition on export markets.
