Most Tanzanian coffee grades fetched lower prices at the last sale due to falling qualities but robusta beans sold at good prices as their season draws to a close, traders said on Monday. The weekly auction is normally held on Thursdays in the northern Tanzanian town of Moshi but results by the Tanzania Coffee Board (TCB) were made available on Monday. "The coffee fetched fair prices.
There was nothing outstanding in most of the lots from the southern (region) because most of the good qualities are now going directly to buyers," one exporter said. "There was some good coffee from two estates in the north which certainly got good prices."
Top notch AA grade eased to $71-$139 per 50-kg bag from $91.60-$149.20 at the previous auction. The top price for grade A rose slightly to $130 from $129 but the bottom price eased to $69.40 from $89.20 per bag at the previous sale.
Traders said all 13,697 robusta bags were sold at slightly firmer prices. Robusta Superior changed hands at $38-$41 per 50-kg bag compared to $39-$39.60 at the previous auction while FAQ slid to $33.80-$37.20 from $33.20-$35.40 per bag.
Arabica FAQ sold at better prices between $90.20-$91.00 per bag from $76-$77 at the previous sale. An auction report by the TCB said most of 29,343 60-kg bags were sold but did not give auction volumes for this week's sale.
