The National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain on Tuesday called on Indian President A P J Abdul Kalam here at Rashtrapati Bhavan and conveyed the goodwill message of Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf. National Assembly Speaker, who is leading a parliamentary delegation also, met Vice President and Chairman Rajya Sabha Bhairon Singh Shekhawat on Tuesday evening.
Eight parliamentarians, National Assembly Secretary Mahmood Salim Mahmood, Pakistan's High Commissioner to India Aziz Ahmad Khan and Deputy High Commissioner Munawar Saeed were present during the meeting with the President and the Vice President.
National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain said they were looking forward his (President) visit to Pakistan. Warm welcome awaits him, he added.
President A P J Abdul Kalam expressed that the menace of poverty was the major problem, confronting the developing nations like India and Pakistan.
Poverty was one of the major problems impeding economic development and prosperity of the developing countries, which he stressed, needed to be addressed through comprehensive strategy and serious endeavours.
National Assembly Speaker observed exchange of parliamentary delegations between the two countries could help promote understanding and strengthen bilateral ties.
