Bangladesh pharmaceutical companies to set up units at Sundar Industrial Estate
Bangladeshi pharmaceutical companies would set up its manufacturing units at Sundar Industrial Estate (SIE), established near Lahore. In order to encourage foreign investment, Health Ministry had already allowed registration of Bangladeshi medicines for import purposes so that these companies could produce its products locally after completion of plants at the industrial estate.
To encourage other foreign investors, the government would also provide those facilities that were available in Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. Punjab Industrial Estate (PIE) Director Usman Khalid Waheed stated this in a meeting at PIE central office, a press release issued here on Wednesday said.
He said that the Health Ministry has also accorded site approval for setting up 20 pharmaceutical units in Sundar Industrial Estate, he added. As many as 51 pharmaceutical units would be set up in Sundar Industrial Estate and case for approval of over 31 units is under process and would be finalised in a couple of weeks. The Health Ministry has assured approval for setting up a pharma unit in Sundar Estate, he added.
He said that only 20 pharmaceutical units in the estate would generate 60,000 direct and indirect jobs. He lauded the efforts of the federal health minister who was doing marvellous efforts to promote pharma sector in the Sundar Industrial Estate.
About Central Drug Testing Laboratory, he said, the Punjab government had already given a grant of Rs 50 million to build this laboratory at Sundar and the Punjab Industrial Estate has allotted 2.39 acres of land for this purpose. This laboratory would serve as drug testing for all the units of Sundar Industrial Estate, while all the units would also establish its own quality control laboratories.-PR
