A 'Sea Festival' will be held along the beach in the metropolis from January 7 to 9. Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, has directed that the Festival should be arranged in an attractive manner for the entire country and that it be made an annual feature. In this connection, a high-level review meeting was held at the Governor House here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan directed the officials of the concerned federal and the provincial departments to extend their full co-operation for organising this event in a befitting manner.
He was of the view that the sea is the identity of Karachi and that this should be made the identity of the country as well through this very event.
Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan pointed out that owing to the steps taken by the government there has been a headway towards investment and development works.
He said the law and order situation has also improved and there is usual bustle of activity besides the sports and cultural programmes.
The Governor expressed the hope that the Sea Festival would be a step forward in this very direction. He directed the City Government to hand over the area allocated for this event to the organisers positively by December 31 so that the required arrangements could be completed.
Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan directed the concerned departments to complete the work regarding cleanliness, electricity supply and other work according to schedule.
He took notice of demolition of Sea Festival publicity structure allegedly by some officials of City Government and directed the DCO to inquire into the matter and take remedial steps.
The Governor was of the view that the Sea Festival should be exemplary and reflect the culture, tourism and trade and industry aspect of the province.
He said the very purpose of this event is to provide recreation to the people but at the same time it should also help bring about improvements in the living standard of those who live along the coastal areas. These people, the fishermen as well as the school children should also be provided opportunity to attend various events.
The Festival would include sea games, stalls depicting the coastal and regional culture and other programmes besides stalls for eatables and recreational programmes.
It was also decided that the logo of the Festival should be installed at an appropriate place.
Earlier, the organisers of the event and co-sponsor Zohaib Hasan apprised of the details of the Festival.
