Among the day's gainers, troubled LG Card Co Ltd climbed 3.4 percent to 15,200 won amid hopes creditors and former parent LG Group would agree on a bailout for the country's biggest card issuer.
Shares in local shipping firm Hyundai Merchant Marine Co rose 3.24 percent to end at 14,350 won after regulators fined it 2 billion won ($1.89 million) over accounting irregularities. The fine was within market expectations.
Brokerages extended a recent rally after the government announced last week plans to ease restrictions on the sector, with top-ranked Samsung Securities Co ending up 4.48 percent at 23,300 won.
