A paramilitary gang in Northern Ireland could have been behind a staggering 20 million pound (28.9 million euro, 38.6 million dollar) robbery that targeted the province's biggest bank, a former police anti-terrorist squad chief said Wednesday. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) was expected to release more details later Wednesday about the dramatic heist at the Northern Bank in downtown Belfast, amid reports that up to 20 people may have been involved.
"It's too early to say who was responsible for this robbery," said Security Minister Ian Pearson.
"What I can assure anybody and everybody... is that the police are fully and actively investigating the robbery and they will do all they can to make sure that we bring these people to justice."
