Nepal's King Gyanendra will arrive in India Thursday for an 11-day visit where the Maoist insurgency in his Himalayan country is expected to top the agenda with Indian leaders. He is due to meet Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam as well as the leader of India's ruling Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi.
"The king will gather India's opinion on resolving the Maoist problem and presenting Nepals current political and economic situation," said Nepal's junior foreign minister, Prakash Sharan Mahat.
More than 10,000 people have died since the Maoists took up arms in 1996 intent on toppling the king of the Himalayan nation.
The king will also visit the Indian cities of Deharadun, Lucknow, Patna and Calcutta.
Nepalese officials say the he will be seeking India's assurance that it will seal the porous 1,040-kilometre (883-miles) Indo-Nepal border if and when the army cracks down on the rebels.
