The All Pakistan Marble Industries Association (Apmia) has urged the Director, Trade Organisations (DTO), Ministry of Commerce, to take notice of the irregularities allegedly committed by the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), depriving legitimate persons to represent the interests of trade and industry in the apex trade body.
In a press statement issued here, Apmia Chairman Sanaullah Khan described the FPCCI as a "house of manufactured representatives." To prove his argument, he cited the case of one Urfi Fiaz "who is not a member of our association, but has procured fake nomination to represent the association in the FPCCI."
He said the said person contested the FPCCI election for the 2005-06 term and had been declared elected "illegally" as a member of managing committee. He questioned how a person could represent an association when he was not a member and further the Apmia did not send his nomination.
The Apmia Chairman said that he had sent a complaint to FPCCI President Riaz Ahmed Tata with a copy to the Secretary General as well as to the DTO. Because of the fake nominations and illegal representations in the FPCCI, the problems and issues of the members of business community did not come under focus of the relevant government departments, he said.
Sanaullah Khan said the efforts put in by the Apmia against such illegal acts had helped in unearthing of other fake nominations, adding his association would now form an action committee to approach all legal forums to help persons, who had been deprived of their right to represent their respective associations.-PR
