Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro and Federal Health Minister Professor Nasir Khan will inaugurate the 42nd annual symposium of the Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) here on Monday. Director, JPMC Professor Mashoor Alam Shah in a statement here on Thursday said the event with the theme, "Genito-urinary Tract Problems" will comprise 27 scientific sessions covering almost all disciplines of medicine and surgery besides state-of-the-art lectures by eminent medical experts.
These lectures on topics like 'Archives of Urology' by Professor Farrakh Khan, 'Leaking Plumbing' by Professor Jamsheer Talati, 'Perils of Intimacy' by Dr Faisal Sultan and 'Gender Confusion' by Professor Tasnim Ahsan will be presented during the inaugural session.
Four inter-active pre-symposium workshops are scheduled to be held on Friday at National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases. The workshop topics would range from Management of patients with cardiovascular diseases during pregnancy; Non-cardiac surgery in cardiac patients; Challenges of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Heart Disease and Stoke - Primary and Secondary Prevention; Acute Streptococcal Pharyngitis, Prevention of Rheumatic Fever and Infective Endocarditis. As for scientific sessions, it was said that each session would comprise invited keynote lecturers on relevant topics in various disciplines. The lectures will be followed by scientific research papers numbering 10 to 12 in each session.
A post-congress seminar is scheduled for December 30 with the title "Future Realities and Strategies." The session was said to be designed to deliberate the future development and strategies for managing health sector issues.
The first session will focus on "Communication and Information Networks in the context of future developments of Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre.
JPMC director Professor Mashoor Alam Shah will identify the needs of JPMC with relevance to information and communication technology. Professor Masood Sheikh will present the feasibility report of the proposed computerisation project of JPMC. Dr Arif Mateen, managing director, Pakistan Software Export Board, Islamabad will present his views on the proposal. Federal health secretary Anwer Mahmood will conclude the session with his views on the subject.
