A bomb blast killed a suspected member of a banned extremist outfit and wounded seven other people in Bannu town close to the North Waziristan area on Saturday, officials said. "One person was killed and four were wounded in the blast," Information Minister Sheikh Rashid told Reuters. Police later said three more people were wounded.
The explosion occurred in a shop in Mandan Gate market near a police check post. A senior police official said the man killed in the blast was owner of the shop and an activist of a banned extremist group.
Senior police officer Dilawar Bangash said the dead man, identified as Haroon, was a member of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit.
The official said police suspect the bomb went off accidentally.
Jaish-e-Mohammad renamed itself Khudam-e-Islam after being outlawed in 2002.
