Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday appreciated the contribution of eminent persons from minorities, especially Christians in education and other sectors of life. Talking to a 15-member delegation of Christians led by Professor Mushtaq Victor, MNA, Shaukat Aziz urged for interfaith harmony between all religions and sects. He said that Pakistan has constitutional guarantees for equal treatment for all citizens irrespective of religion, caste and creed.
Minorities are fully protected and independent to profess and practice their religion freely, he added.
The Prime Minister said that government would strive for the welfare of all minorities and they have equal opportunities and rights as other citizens of Pakistan.
He said that people of all religions should work together for peace, harmony, progress and prosperity of the country.
The Prime Minister said that Islam is a religion of peace and moderation and Quaid-e-Azam has also stressed for interfaith harmony and interaction. "We should follow the teachings of Islam while treating the minorities," he said.
Shaukat Aziz congratulated them on the occasion of Christmas.
The delegation appreciated the efforts of present government for welfare of the minorities and prayed for the peace, progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
The Prime Minister later cut the Christmas cake.
