The 128th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah was celebrated on Saturday with a renewed pledge to make Pakistan economically strong and an Islamic state in line with the aspirations of the Father of the Nation. The day was declared as a public holiday. The day dawned with special prayers in mosques for the soul of Quaid-e-Azam, and integrity and prosperity of the country.
Political, social and literary organisations arranged special programmes to pay homage to the founder of the country.
Pakistan Television and radio chalked out special programmes to highlight Quaid's ideas and achievements. Newspapers also published special supplements on the occasion. Main public and private places were illuminated and decorated to mark the day.
Contingent of Cadets from Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul mounted guard at Quaid's mausoleum in Karachi to pay respect to Father of the Nation.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim along with his cabinet visited Quaid's mausoleum, laid wreaths and offered Fateha.
Representatives of three services also laid wreaths and offered Fateha.
Leaders of Pakistan Muslim League at a seminar in Islamabad reiterated their pledge to make Pakistan a modern Islamic welfare state in the light of ideology and teachings Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
PML leaders including Mushahid Hussain Syed, Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Muhammad Ali Durrani, Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind and others paid rich tributes to the Quaid-e-Azam for creating a separate homeland for the Muslims of the sub-continent.
In Lahore, a similar function was held at Muslim League House to mark the Quaid's birthday.
In his presidential address Railways Minister, Shamim Haider said that it was time to transform Pakistan into an enlightened moderate Islamic country.
Justice Javed Iqbal (Retd) at Quaid-e-Azam Day function, organised by Aiwan-e-Karuknan-e-Tehreek-e-Pakistan, said the nation should work in unison for socio-economic development of the country.
People in Gilgit also offered special prayers in mosques for progress and prosperity of the country and for the soul of the Father of the Nation.
Radio Pakistan Gilgit and Skardu aired special programmes on the life, ideas and achievements of Quaid-e-Azam.
People in Quetta, Peshawar and Azad Kashmir also celebrated the day by organising seminars, exhibitions, rallies and other functions.
