Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shaikh Rashid Ahmed on Saturday said the uniform of President General Pervez Musharraf was a reality and it had become a necessity for the present political and economic system in the country. Talking to newsmen here he said, "President in uniform has become a necessity for the system."
He said the government was open to dialogue with the opposition on all issues.
To a question, he said the persons arrested in Karachi were foreigners but nothing more could be said about their identification at that moment.
To another question, he said the religion column in the passport should be restored.
The remarks of Pakistan Muslim League (PML) President Ch Shujaat on that issue was a policy statement of the ruling party, he added.
Earlier, addressing a religious congregation at Eidgah Sharif, the Minister said Pakistan was made in the name of Islam and would make progress on the basis of Islamic values. The Minister said Muslims left behind their properties and wealth in India because they wanted to live in an Islamic country. The government was fulfilling its Islamic obligations with responsibility and would promote and propagate Islamic values, he added.
