The President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has been cautioned against exercising powers enjoined exclusively by the managing committee. FPCCI Vice-President Engr. M.A Jabbar, in a letter to the FPCCI President, has advised him to re-check that as President he does not have powers to allow expenditure and payments on account of engaging services of advisers and consultants as these powers vest in the managing committee alone. All such payments made earlier, without prior approval of the managing committee, may remain questionable, he said.
"You will also take notice that claims of forgery and fraud in utter disregard of transparency in the elections have made the elections questionable," he said.
He advised the President that in the present situation "you would like to take abundant caution and restrain yourself from taking actions which will be claimed to be questionable" and in contravention of the constitution and amount to encroachment on the powers of managing committee.
In a separate letter to FPCCI President, five members of the managing committee and one former vice-president of FPCCI from Balochistan have warned him against payments being made on the orders of a vice-president. "No vice-president can exercise powers in the presence of President in the country as per the constitution of FPCCI," they said.
The signatories to the letter, a copy of which has also been sent to the Director, Trade Organisation, Ministry of Commerce, include Raza Mohammad Warrech, Fazal Qadir Khan Sherani, Daroo Khan, Jamal Abdul Nasir, Rasool Baksh, and Agha Liaquat Ali, all members of the managing committee.
They have also requested to stop payment of Rs 40,000, if being paid, for running the "so-called" G-77 cell which has never been authorised by the managing committee of FPCCI, besides use of space , infrastructure and FPCCI's manpower unauthorisedly should also be stopped forthwith.
