The Consumer Traders Association has called for accelerating the registration process of new taxpayers to widen tax collection base instead of shifting more burden to the existing taxpayers. It also stressed further simplification of the tax collection system to encourage the new taxpayers to come into the fold. Association Chairman Mohammad Haroon Augar, in his recommendations sent to the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) Chairman, demanded the launching of online tax payment system immediately.
Augar further suggested furnishing of the Customs House with all sophisticated equipment and facilities, including its complete computerisation, to enhance its role in revenue collection and promotion of national trade.
He suggested that the Customs Collectorate of Valuation should re-value the imported consignments, sent from the associations, as certain associations were allegedly preparing valuation letters of their choice, which created serious problems for the importers.
