President General Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have expressed their heartfelt sorrow over earthquakes which killed thousands of people in Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Thailand and Malaysia and injured thousands.
President General Pervez Musharraf, in his message, has condoled with the families of the victims as well as with the governments and the peoples of the countries where earthquakes and tidal waves have caused colossal devastation.
The president, expressing his profound shock over the severity and destruction caused by the earthquakes, has called for swift and concerted international efforts to deal with this massive natural disaster and offered Pakistan's help in containing and mitigating the widespread suffering.
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, in his message, has conveyed his deepest sympathies to the bereaved families and assured the governments and the people of the affected countries that Pakistan was with them in this tragic hour.
"This was truly an international emergency that would challenge the resourcefulness of the world community to address the consequences of this catastrophe," the prime minister said.
Pakistan would do its utmost in providing relief to the affected countries, he added.
THE PREMIER SAID: "The government and the people of Pakistan are deeply shocked over the tragedy that has sent shock waves throughout Pakistan."
The government of Pakistan has directed its ambassadors in the region to obtain assessment of the full extent of destruction and damages in order to determine the kind of assistance that should be generated nationally and internationally.
