Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) would announce date of its next public gathering after consulting with the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD), and MMA was with the opposition in its struggle against the dictatorial regime. Deputy Secretary of MMA, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed disclosed this while talking to newsmen after attending a seminar on 'Role of political force in struggle against authoritarian regime' here on Monday.
The seminar was organised by Khawaja Muhammad Rafique Foundation in connection with Khawaja Muhammad Rafique's 32nd death anniversary.
He further said that MMA has already formed a six-member committee under the chairmanship of Jamaat-i-Islami Ameer Qazi Hussain Ahmed. "On the issues of Islam, Wana and US arrogant attitude, PML-N was close to MMA," he added.
Earlier, addressing the seminar, Hafiz Hussain Ahmed said that MMA would not compromise with the generals and they accept the mistake of negotiating with the army junta on the issue of uniform and in future such a mistake would not be repeated. He was of the view that Punjab should rise to the occasion in struggle against the army rule.
Former president of Pakistan Muhammad Rafique Tarar paid rich tributes to late Khawaja Muhammad Rafique for his struggle against authoritarian regimes. He maintained that Pakistan was placed at same point as it was in 1971, but the army has not learnt any lesson and despite knowing the consequences the government was still pursuing those policies that led to dismemberment of the country.
Senior PML-N leaders Siranjam Khan, Zulfiqar Ali Khosa, Imdad Chandio, Tehmina Daultana, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Maimona Hashmi, Rana Sanaullah, Hafiz Salman Butt and Fareed Paracha of MMA, Pir Ejaz Hashmi of JUP (Noorani), Nawabzada Mansoor Ali Khan of ARD and others in their speeches condemned the army rule. They said that since General Musharraf grabbed power, the country's economy has deteriorated. "Uniform or no uniform, autocratic rule on one pretext or the other was not acceptable. Thus, the army should go back to barracks and leave the country affairs in the hands of the people and let the democratic process find its own path," they asserted.
According to them, General Musharraf and other generals would be tried in a court of law for violating the constitution and committing killings in Wana and Afghanistan on the US instigation. The army's top brass was busy in minting money while forgetting its real job of defending Pakistan frontiers, they said. Moreover, General Musharraf's claim of democracy in Pakistan was hollow, as he has denied Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto entry to the country to play their due role in the national politics. They rejected Musharraf's "progressive thinking" dictated by the US. They categorically announced that they would not compromise with the dictatorial regime and would continue struggle to free the country from the clutches of dictators. They also advocated for formation of a grand national alliance based on national consensus.
