Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said every possible step would be taken to revive the film industry in Karachi. Talking to a delegation of the Pakistan Film Producers' Association (PFPA) here at the Governor's House on Monday, he said besides other steps, it was also being considered to allow tax waiver on import of film equipment. He added the Prime Minister would also be apprised regarding the issues related to the federal government in that connection.
He said setting up of a film city in Karachi was under the government's consideration. Besides, the filmmakers, TV channels and private production houses would also be given maximum facilities in the proposed Film City, he added.
Dr Ibad said the state bank and other institutions would be contacted to grant the industry status and as such the related facilities to the film industry. He said the concerned provincial departments had already been ordered to review the situation and chalk out a comprehensive plan for the revival of film industry.
The governor said the revival of that sector would only be possible, when the producers strove hard for a good moviemaking. He further said in the past many important sectors, including the film industry had seen a decline.
He said in Karachi, there was a great potential for the filmmaking industry, as the city had a great number of viewers. He said the city also had great talent, which should not go wasted.
The governor said the present government was taking steps to revive the past glories of the city and it was due to that the economic cultural, sports and other sectors had witnessed a great success.
He asked the delegation for steps to hand over their professional expertise to the young blood. He also stressed for the use of modern studios, laboratories and equipment in moviemaking.
The delegation, led by film director Syed Kamal, was comprised of Saeed Rizvi, Ghaffar Danawalla, Shakeel Akhtar and Aslam Illyas.
