Professor Dr Iqbal Chaudhry, Director HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry of Karachi and convener National Core Group in Chemistry, highlighting the importance of the group in chemistry, said some important research projects have been developed for development of chemistry in the country. He was speaking at the two-week in-service training workshop on "Chromatography and Statistics in Chemistry", organised by the Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry, University of Sindh on Monday.
"The National Core Group in Chemistry (NCGC), for promotion of chemistry, is also collaborating with the universities of the country," he said, adding, "the NCGC is working for improvement of chemistry from school to research level, including organisation of seminars and workshops."
"The group is also organising 20 workshops during the current financial year," he said, adding, "the NCGC is also distributing important books in the 50 universities of the country."
He said that the group was also working to collect data of degree colleges as well as their resources to promote chemistry subject at the college level.
Dr Iqbal Chaudhry said: "With efforts of Professor Dr Attaur Rehman, who is a learned scholar of chemistry and Chairman of the Higher Education Commission, four national core groups of chemistry, physics, mathematics and life sciences have been formed with the purpose to improve the quality of production in these areas as well as topromote the research work."
Highlighting the objectives of the training workshop, Dr Chaudhry said that this workshop has been organised to train the master of trainers for training of teachers in universities as well as colleges.
Dr Iqbal Bhanghar, director National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry, University of Sindh, addressing the participants of the workshop said that many scholars of chemistry have been invited for exchange of views in new developments in chemistry as well as for more improvement of the discipline.
Earlier, Mazharul Haq Siddique, VC of Sindh University, inaugurating the workshop, said that the objective of the training workshop was to improve the quality of education in chemistry and human resources in discipline of chemistry in the universities.
He urged the participants of the workshop to concentrate on acquiring the knowledge for the benefit of the society.
Twenty-five teachers from the universities of Peshawar, Karachi, Quetta, Dera Ismail Khan and university of Sindh have been invited to attend the workshop.
