The joint venture partners have planned to start spud-in work of Well-17 at Adhi Field in Punjab in the first week of February 2005, it has been learnt. Arrangements for staking (central point of well to be drilled) of Well-15 are being made for carrying out preliminary survey of the well location, access road and waterline road etc. To carry out pre-drilling civil work, PPL has awarded Rs 17 million contract to Islamabad based M/s Standard Well Corporation (SWC) which has started work on the project, well-informed sources told Business Recorder.
According to terms and conditions of the contract, SWC is required to complete the work in just 55 days. About scope of work to be carried out by the contractor, sources pointed out it includes all civil and pre-drilling mechanical work including fencing, camping, erection of cellar platform and some road construction work.
It may be pointed out that SWC has also done similar civil work of Well 13, 14 and 15 at Adhi Field.
After this job is done, the spud-in work on Well-17 will commence, the sources claimed. According to them, prospects for the success of this well are very bright and the joint venture partners are very optimistic about its being productive. Recently, drilling work of Well-16 is underway at Adhi Field.
Adhi Field, which is located in the districts of Rawalpindi and Chakwal, is operated by PPL with majority stake holding while Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL) are the other joint venture partners.
The sources further said that PPL's hopes about new discoveries, especially of oil, from Adhi Field are very high, therefore, it has geared up its exploration activities there.
