Khushbakht Shuja'at was elected for the third consecutive time Vice-President of the Arts Council of Pakistan for the 2005 term here on Sunday. A record turnout was witnessed in the 36-year history of the Arts Council elections. The three panels - Khushbakht Shuja'at, Azfar Rizvi and Mian Muhammad Saeed - participated in the elections.
Aniq Ahmed and Rizwan Siddiqui of Azfar Rizvi panel have been elected Secretary and Treasurer respectively.
Khushbakht Shuja'at secured 866 votes against her rival Azfar Rizvi, who got 809 votes, while Aniq Ahmed bagged 898 votes, defeating Moin Akhtar, who secured 767 votes, Rizwan got 911 and got elected against Naqash Kazmi, who secured 712 votes.
The following 12 members have been elected to the governing body: Saifur-ur-Grami, who secure highest number of 1,043 votes, followed by Professor Sahar Ansari (912 votes), Kamal Ahmed Rizvi (879), Shahnaz Siddiqui (875), Mohammad Ayub (867), Samina Pirzada (865), Naila Jaffery (854), Dr Rehana Mohammad Ali Shah (841), Owais Adib Ansari (811), Hyder Imam Rizvi (810), Nayyara Noor (788) and Seema Farrukh 778 votes.
