Pakistani Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Uloomi Kareem overwhelmed his unbeaten Indian rival Yadwinder Singh in a key bout of World Series of Fighting Global Championship in Manila, Philippines on Saturday.
Kareem dominated Yadwinder, who had a two-inch size advantage, throughout the match and won comfortably with a unanimous decision of 30-27, 30-27, 29-28.
Another Pakistani fighter Ahmed ‘Wolverine’ Mujtaba later faced Philippine’s Neil Larano and overpowered him with an armbar triangle choke in just one minute and eight seconds of the first round.
Kareem’s bout with Yadwinder had become a much awaited affair because of traditional Indo-Pak rivalry. Whenever Pakistan and India face each other in any sporting arena, it creates high intensity and makes tense affair between the two countries.
Uloomi Kareem was however confident about his preparation for the key fight, saying: “I have worked extremely hard on my cardio for this fight, and I’m confident it will make a difference.”
When asked about his challenger he said, “Yadwinder is a traditional wrestler who has transitioned into the MMA, while my strength lies is striking. Hence, the fight won’t just have the Pakistan-India angle to it but will also be a battle of styles.”
