The government has decided to register all pathological laboratories in different areas of the country to improve healthcare facilities. Initially, the pathology laboratories will be offered voluntarily accreditation while registration will be made mandatory for all laboratories in near future. "We have suggested that the laboratories should be accredited to provide best healthcare facilities to people," Pakistan National Accreditation Council (PNAC) Chief Co-ordinator Ehsan-ur-Rauf Sheikh informed Business Recorder here on Monday.
There were numerous medical laboratories, which were playing havoc with the lives of poor people, providing false and inaccurate medical reports, he said, adding, however, there was no system to penalise such laboratories.
The PNAC is member of International Accreditation Forum (IAF), International Lab Accreditation Co-operation (ILAC) and Asia Pacific Lab Accreditation Co-operation (Aplac). Ehsan-ur-Rauf Sheikh, talking to newsman, said the PNAC was working on it and an accreditation system would be introduced very soon.
He was of the view that there was dire needed for creating awareness among the people that they must go to the registered laboratories only.
