The NWFP Governor, Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd), has said that nine billion rupees are being spent on the development of the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) during the current year Besides improving the health facilities and education system, the programme would also help generate employment opportunities at local level, he added.
He also reiterated the determination of the government that the local educated manpower would be given priority in recruitment against the vacancies to be generated through this process.
The Governor said this while talking to a delegation of students from South Waziristan Agency, studying in the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology at the Governor's House here on Monday.
The Governor also assured them that the amount of scholarships to the students of professional institutions would be revised so as to bring it at par with the tuition fees of the respective institutions.
The students apprised the Governor about their problems and demands.
On a point, the governor said that with the establishment of medical and engineering colleges in Fata, the students from tribal area would get additional education facilities, resolving the issue of special quota once and for all.
The Governor further said that all vacancies in the colleges of Fata had been filled and presently their existed not a single vacant post in the college sector.
He stressed upon the students to focus on their studies and not involve themselves in the political activities.
Referring to the situation of South Waziristan Agency, the Governor said that the educated youth could play an effective role in the restoration of law and order in the agency as well as in the promotion of positive thinking amongst the tribal people.
Talking on another point, the Governor said that before the elimination of Frontier crime regulation (FCR), the entire Fata had to be cleansed of illegal arms and for this purpose, necessary strategy had been devised.
In fact, he said, there was complete ban on holding as well as use of heavy weapons in Fata.
Therefore, he remarked, the government was even ready to purchase such arms and a positive headway had already been made in this connection in certain areas.
