The NWFP Governor, Lieutenant General Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah (Retd), formally launched the Fata education website at a simple ceremony held at the Governor's House here on Monday. Earlier, the Governor was briefed by his Secretary Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad, Director, Education, Fata, Dr Abdur Rauf, and all the political agents about the information to be provided through the website.
He was told that all information relating to the education sector in the Fata would be made available through it, which would include educational infrastructure, facilities, number of students as well as their teachers and the quality of education.
The Governor was further informed that the information to be displayed through the website would be revised periodically to refresh the facts and figures.
The Governor, terming the launching of website a positive initiative, also stressed that it should be made more easily accessible to the visitors, including all such schools, which were sanctioned on nomination basis in the past.
The Governor reiterated the clear and unequivocal policy of the government that the practice of sanctioning schools to the particular individuals had been eliminated and new schools were being established keeping in view the requirements and needs of the respective people and the area.
In fact, the Governor added, there was a great change, taking place in the atmosphere of the Fata, which must be fully evaluated.
The Governor described the role of the Agency Education Officers as highly important, and said that they had to perform their duties with utmost devotion and concentration and chalk out their development and planning strategies with regard to their respective agencies for the next year.
Referring to the establishment of agency councils, the Governor said that sub-committees on education under these councils should also be constituted with the responsibilities to keep a vigil on the activities as well as overall development of the respective educational institutions.
In fact, the Governor said, without active involvement of the respective communities, the process of desired level of development could not be carried out further.
Presiding over another high level meeting, the Governor was briefed about the state of affairs of the agency development fund at agency level, which beside all the political agents of the Fata was also attended by Secretary to Governor Sahibzada Saeed Ahmad. Presenting the details, Sahibzada Mohammad Anees, Political Agent, Mohmand Agency, apprised the governor about the position of funds being collected at the agency level as well as their expenditures.
The Governor also constituted a committee to look into the process of expenditure under different heads and come out with proposals to not only streamline and regularise it, but also create unanimity in the process.
