Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, chairing the concluding session of two-day 10th Inter-provincial Co-ordination Meeting on Law and Order here on Tuesday, has said despite overall improvement in law and order situation concerted efforts were needed to root out terrorism from the country. Besides, Director General Rangers of Punjab and Sindh, Police Inspector Generals of four provinces, Director General Intelligence Bureau, Director General Federal Investigation Agency, Director General Coast Guard, Inspector General Prisons and other senior officers of administration of the provinces were present on the occasion.
Sherpao maintained under the guidance of President Musharraf's vision of enlightenment, a campaign would be launched to tackle the problem of terrorism. "In order to create cohesion amongst law enforcement quarters, establishment of crisis management cell in all the four provinces as well as Federal level, law enforcement agencies across the country are to be linked to National Crisis Management Data Bank", he added.
He disclosed in order to curb crimes in future all PTCL and mobile telephones would only be issued after on-line verification by Nadra. Stating that with the issuance of Standing Order Procedure issued to stakeholders' countrywide by Federal Government, Foreigners Security Cell was being established in the Ministry of Interior.
When asked to take effective measures to halt acts of aggression on journalists, he ensured government put them in highest esteem and ensure to give them due honour.
He averred DG National Crisis Cell would visit all parts of the country to check foreigner's security. 'Cells at Interior Ministry level and at provinces would be established for making security of foreigners,' he added.
He stated the foreigners, arrested under Foreign Act, would be released after their Consulates excess.
In order to improve law and order situation, the Federal Government would assist the provincial CID's and Special Branches on matters of capacity build up. 'On requirement of law enforcement agencies, the Federal Government would supplement them in their efforts', he added.
About the decisions taken in the meeting, he stated SOP had been issued to stakeholders. 'We would establish high security prisons along with maximum- security cells. Provinces had asked Nadra to automate data on prisoners', he added.
Talking about efforts being made for curbing human trafficking, he said FIA had been given special instructions in this regard. 'We have reviewed working of civil armed forces in the meeting and are happy over their performance', he added.
Director General Nadra, DG FIA and representatives of private security agencies gave presentations in the meeting.
About Wana operation, he said it would continue till desired results were achieved. He added political process in Balochistan would continue. 'I would soon visit the Balochistan Province', he added.
About Madrassahs he said they had discussed working paper on the issue there. 'Anti terrorist courts benches to curb such activities are to be established at High Court level', he added.
