Government has adopted the Industrial Relations Ordinance (IRO-2002) under the dictates of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) in order to fulfil their agenda to damage the local industry. These were the unanimous views of the participants of the Pakistan Labour Conference.
The conference, held at Rawalpindi Press Club, was addressed by Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed MNA, Mehboob Alam Bhopali, Nazar Hussain Shah, Waheed Baloch, Naveed Aftab, Abdul Haq Khaitran and Nasreen Taj.
The conference was attended by labour leaders from all over Pakistan besides a large number of workers.
The participants of the conference were of the view that the present government is running anti-people policies as it has snatched the purchasing capacity of the common people.
They said that prices of essential commodities are sky rocketing, while the wages of workers are same old. This is the main reason for rise in crime and suicide cases in the country, they added.
They demanded immediate lifting of the ban on trade unions in the country and said that trade unions are guarantee of the future of the workers.
"Workers should be given this basic right of trade union in order to protect their rights and end the exploitation of industrialists and the government," they added.
They also demanded that the government should withdraw the Industrial Relations Ordinance-2002, which is completely anti-labour and was introduced on the directions of International Monetary Fund and World Bank.
"It is a move to ruin the industrial sector of Pakistan and give way to America and Europe to tighten their grip over Pakistan," they maintained.
"America and Europe are eager to turn Pakistan into a consumer society and the government is helping them to fulfil their agenda," they added.
