Karachi Transport Ittehad (KTI) on Tuesday reiterated its threat that no transport vehicle would be brought on road in Karachi and in the entire Sindh on January 5, 2005 if Oil Companies Advisory Committee did not withdraw the recently raise in diesel and petrol price till December 31,2004. It was reiterated in a meeting of the office bearers of Buses, Minibuses, Coaches, Reti Bajri Trucks, Taxis and Rickshaws associations held Syed Irshad Bukhari in chair.
The meeting decided to contact transport associations of the other three provinces of the country also to observe wheel jam on the day.
It further decided if provincial government contacted them they would not postpone strike till the withdrawal of increase in diesel price.
The KTI also demanded the citizens and political parties to fully support the January 5 strike call otherwise they would be forced to demand increase in transport fare.
The meeting further demanded the government not to capture their vehicles for its purpose and also pay them outstanding amount of Rs 3 million. It demanded an immediate repair of roads in Baldia and Orangi Town besides eliminating encroachments spread nearly all roads of the city and save transporters from traffic jams.
