The NWFP Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Sardar Muhammad Idrees has directed all TMOs of district Peshawar to launch operation against illegal encroachment in Peshawar and submit completion report to him by 31st December 2004 positively. Strict disciplinary action would be taken against those TMOs who failed to comply with the orders, he added.
These directives he issued while presiding over a high level meeting regarding the problems faced by the people of Peshawar at his office on Wednesday.
NWFP Minister for Information and Public Relations, Asif Iqbal Daudzai, Provincial Minister for Religious Affairs Maulana Anmanullah Haqqani, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Shamsur Rehman Shamsi, District Naib Nazim Dr Iqbal Khalil, all Town Nazims of Peshawar, TMOs, DG CD&MD, SP Peshawar, high-ranking officials of LG, environment and transport attended the meeting.
Sardar Idrees further said that illegal encroachment and load of traffic has increased the problems of Peshawarites. He directed the concerned quarters to complete operation against illegal encroachment by 31st December and hand over all these routes to the police authorities so that the occupants could not be able to re-encroach.
He said that he would visit the Chowk Yadgar, Sabzi Mandi, Reti Bazar, Ashraf Road, Bacha Khan Chowk, Charsadda Road and Board Bazar after clean up operation on the same day. He also directed high ups of police department to implement the traffic plan after the encroachment on these roads were removed.
The Provincial Minister for Information Asif Iqbal Daudzai pointed out that historical boundary wall of Peshawar City "Faseel-i-Shehr" being dismantled by self vested elements and shops and plazas being constructed there.
He demanded immediate action against these elements. The minister local government on the spot ordered TMO Town I to submit reports regarding this historical wall of Peshawar City to him and take action against those involved in demolishing it. Sardar Idrees assured the meeting that traffic plan of the committee would be implemented as soon as possible to lessen the traffic load on internal city.
The minister on this occasion also constituted a sub committee headed by Town Nazim II Mumtaz Khan to work out strategy for disposal of garbage of Peshawar City and identification of site for garbage of Peshawar.
He informed that modern treatment plant would also be installed for scientific disposal of garbage with the financial assistance of environmental protection agency. He also emphasised on early repair and beautification of Wazir Bagh Peshawar.
He said that Rs 2.5 million have already been allocated for this purpose. Separate meetings of all towns of Peshawar would be held on 4th, 13th and 14th January 2005, in order to chalk out comprehensive strategy for the solution of problems confronting Peshawarites.
