The Wapda Hydroelectric Union (CBA) has threatened a countrywide power outage on Friday December 31, against the proposed privatisation of Wapda companies. Wapda Hydroelectric Union Sukkur Region General Secretary Zahid Shah, Lala Dhani Bux, Darya Khan, Zia Bhatti and Mazhar Shaikh threatened this here on Wednesday, while addressing a protest demo and sit-in in front of the Sukkur Press Club.
They warned that if the government failed to withdraw its policy regarding the privatisation of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) and other companies of Wapda, the workers would not only launch an aggressive countrywide protest, but they also would cut off the countrywide supply of power on December 31.
They feared that the proposed privatisation would render thousands of workers jobless and blacken the future of their children. They said that they would never allow such a situation happened.
The labour leaders said that as in Kambar five people sacrificed their lives for their just cause, the Wapda workers would also not hesitate to lay their lives for their rights.
The protestors on this occasion also chanted slogans and later dispersed peacefully.
